I couldn't disagree more. I *love* the swivel when composing shots from the

Me too.  Well, I compose using the swivel usually, I can imagine circumstances
that would lead me to buy a camera without the swivel, but it would be pretty
powerful in other ways.

(And if you don't like the swivel, the Nikon 800 is still a nice
camera -- most of the features of the 950 minus the swivel.)

I'll speak up in favor of the 800 as well. I love it.  I took it as my • primary
camera on my honeymoon (to London) and got some absolutely incredible shots.

I have an 800 and like it a lot. The only thing I miss from my older camera
(now defunct) is the swivel feature. I believe the 950 has more additional
features than just the swivel, though.

I believe the 800 may be superceded by the 880 though. Either that or the
880 is a new model but it appears to have a similar camera body.

My 950 is a pretty good camera.  I would prefer to have a bigger better camera,
but I don't have the cash, so I got the 950 as a compromise.

One problem with it is that what you see on the LCD is different than what you
see through the optical viewfinder.  It's a small difference when you're lense
is long, but the closer to macro you get, the farther from accurate your
viewfinder is.  I prefer to compose with the LCD anyway, but in bright light it
is almost invisble.

The controls are adequate, and the internal light-correction system is fair.  I
hugely prefer the tone of my LEGO closeups taken with bright sun or
incandescent lighting than trying to use the flash.  Actually, the flash almost
never works really well.

That said, if you baby your shots a little, the 950 delivers a pretty good
result with a bunch of options and it's easy to use.

My $.02

Chris
