Hey Rob, evidently LEGO was listening to you (and watching MB Nano car kits
flying off the shelves) because the latest micro-ish Racers kits (esp. 8643 and
8644) have very nice large diameter aluminium rims and low profile tires. The
kits themselves are very MB/Hot Wheel like - lots of stickers and specialized
parts - but that rolling stock is very nice stuff for import car fans. Im
particularly fond of those rubber band tires, and the chrome blower intake/heads
in 8641 and 8643!
As far as me making more custom RP parts for AFOL import nuts.. Ive been doing
a little informal market research at my local diecast stores (yeah, right) and
the custom model bodykit market is dominated by Chinese/Indonesian stuff - i.e.
10-20 part models (with wings, spoilers, wheel and seat kits) for $5. Lots of
SEMA company involvement, as well. No way a custom maker is going to compete
with that.. And now that LEGO themselves is getting into the market, forget it.
Ill probably still make some one-off customs, though, as the first batch was
really fun. But Ive pretty much given up on becoming a custom wheel tycoon. :)
