Suggested reading/viewing would, again, be better selected by the other
guys, but from what I gather, it's kind of a low-tech, Victorian age
sci-fi. Like, what they thought the future would be like. kinda creepy
clockwork, mad scientist, fantastical, industrial, "magic with a dark
side" (as said in the imdb). So, you might look to:

Jules Verne
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Paris in the Twentieth Century
John Boland
League of Gentlemen
Journey to the Center of the Earth (maybe?)
Brazil (maybe?)
Adventures of Baron Munchausen
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Time Bandits (maybe?)

Dare I say LEGO Time Cruisers?

-Suz (who will see to it that Timmy is in the game somewhere)

You dare say it, I call it from the mountain!  Time Cruisers is certainly weird
science and the Twisted Time Train and Flying Time Vessel fit nicely into it.

Another, more recently published, suggestion is the Girl Genius comic from Phil
and Kaja Foglio.  http://www.studiofoglio.com/girlgenius.html  It's pure
"Gaslight Fantasy" for as Kaja point out in the letters, there is very little
'punk' in it.  It's a great read with huge clockwork soldiers, a giant flying
airship, and many more Steampunkish idea.

You can also pick up the card-game based on the comic from Cheapass Games
www.cheapass.com.  It has a lot more pictures (Racing Dirigibles, submarines
and "Clanks") and they're in color!  I've been trying to build "Agatha's First
Clank" for those that get it.  I'm thinking of bugging Admiral Muffin-Head for
some Mech 101 lessons. :)  I'll hopefully have something by next week, look for
it under "Adventurers" as it's the closest thing we have.

Info for folks: At the last NELUG meeting (5-15-01), it was suggested that an upcomming BrikWars game be set in a world of pumped-up past technology. The game has possibly been scheduled for the 4th weekend in June. Possibly to be at Jorge's house. (...) (23 years ago, 17-May-01, to lugnet.org.us.nelug)
