I was thinking of that just last night.....

I think I will need to do some module stacking (RTL 11???). Calum, did you
use 1 x 2 peices of plywood to stack your modules?

2x2, I think.  I think Chris helped me chop them down to 24 inches each
(eight feet).  I drilled in three holes in each, making the spacing about
21-22 inches between each module.  I bolted them in an offset fashion (one
on each side on the corner).  Bolting them in the center makes them twist
like a licorice stick (or a Barber pole.   Or a Rubik's Cube).  I only
realized this AFTER train2.

But here's the kicker.  With 2x2's on the sides, the modules won't fit
Lillian H Smith's doors.  I can't believe it.  We had to unbolt and move
each module in separately.  I'm considering going up to measure the door
widths and see if 1x2's would squeeze in better.  If they do, I might buy
some and drill them on our press here.

What am I going to do when I want to build more modules... (because I have
an Idea for 2 more....)

Rent a UHaul? :) I'm already pushing the limits of the MagicWagon. 6x
modules stacked, one on side.  Plus some half modules.  I have no idea how
the American LTCs do it-their airports are larger than my section
altogether! Wow.

I've honestly considered buying a used Grand Caravan for added module space
as my first car.  Wow, Soccer Mom at age 24.  Damn.

Calum

(...) Here's what I did: I have stacked 3 modules. The North and South face of the stack has two vertical 1x2s bolted to each module, and a diagonal brace bolted to the top and bottom module, making an "N" shape on the north and south face. This (...) (23 years ago, 8-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) When we did GR GATS we had seven vehicles (a pickup, two SUVs and 4 cars) worth of stuff, and that didn't include the crappy tables that GATS supplies. On Friday, we drove right out onto the show floor and unloaded vehicles, then drove out (...) (23 years ago, 8-Jan-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto, lugnet.org.us.michlug)
