Ah nostalgia.  When I was a bit younger, in high school, I liquidated the
high school Commodore64 lab of 30 machines, which happened to have been rat
infested.  The deal was Comspec (a large Canadian computer vendor at the
time with many school board contracts) sold a large metal box with a locking
top.  The box held the power supply for the 64 (older Rev3 IIRC), and any
dongles/user port add ons, nice and secure.  It also had a strip for the
feet of the companion 1702 monitor.  The 1541 sat outside.  Anyways, the box
had holes just large enough to fit cables in.  And for mice to crawl in.
And die.  And leave their droppings.

Where was I going with this?  Oh yeah, so I ended up taking them all home in
my minivan to the TPUG (Toronto Pet Users Group) meeting one year.  30 64's.
1541's and 1702's.  I hosed off most of them with a garden spray gun and
packed them back in.  I sold them out the back of the van to crazed
Commodore enthusiasts (not that far from Lego fans mind you) at $15 bucks a
piece.  It was hilarious, these guys trying to offload their old 64's at
$200 and me literally giving them away.  I took the cash and bought Ethernet
cards for our high school at the Commodore Canada warehouse firesale the
next year.   Sigh.

While my first PC was an Apple II+ (48K+16K and Applesoft ROMs) I have to
say I miss the Amiga lot more.  I've got obscure hardware now (NeXTstation
Turbo slab, SiliconGraphics Indy R4600) but it really pales in comparison to
that old A3000/WarpEngine040/28.

Calum

(...) Oh my, there's some memories... I got my first 5.25 disk at a TPUG meeting with PET software on it. Cost me 5 dollars for 1 floppy!
