You guys are funny.

You often talk about setting up the rules as vague as possible, to allow many
different strategies.  However, when the strategies don't conform to the
predetermined list of valid strategies, they're called "loopholes", so you can
complain about them.

But, to encourage different strategies, and then call them loopholes is just
contradictory.

That's why I'm not in favour of adding this third rule, and I haven't called it a loophole.   I don't agree with Chris on this.

At the same time, there are many strategies which we'd call cheap approaches,
stuff that's not within the spirit of a game.  To some degree, it's the learning
the flavour of a community.  I might not agree with Chris on it, but Chris is
correct in trying to see everyone's opinion on what is "being a punk" and if the
group wants to eliminate it.

Last night I was watching Pinks, my new favorite TV show, and one of the
contestants brought a sub 9 second car when the show when the rules request
drivers bring an 11 second car.  This makes for a VERY lopsided race.  At the
same time, the show tries to promote negotiation, subterfuge and guile for good
television drama, which by bringing a faster car and sandbagging passes would be
in line with.  Would you consider bringing a faster car as cheating?

Is it considered "being a punk" to use this strategy?    If you pulled that at a
real life street race, you'd get your ass kicked.  Yet on a reality TV show,
it's part of the fun.

Ultimately, it's the context of the show.  This drag racing reality show does
not have PriceWaterhouseCoopers auditing the results.  Nor does rtlToronto.  So,
you have to sort of play it by ear.

It's not about being fair overall, it's about being fair in the eyes of the
people who will participate in the contest.

Calum
