Steve,
I read this, and I'm sad to say it really rubbed me the wrong way.
Steve, you and I go way back, heck YOU took the time to teach me bit
masking; and for that I thank you.
But the over all tone of your public text makes me feel like a shit for
not being able to attend other world events. I am very sorry that my
personal and financial situation forces me to have to choose between
keeping my family clothed and fed, vs. attending events all over. I
personally would have loved to go to Denmark and participate in that
lego contest, I would like to be able to take time off and have the
funds to allow me to go to brickfest; or even be able to pack up the
kids and go to Indiana and play tic tac toe for a weekend. But,
surprisingly I am a proud man; I politely say "no thanks" not this year,
when I really feel crushed and envious of you and all the other people
who can find the means to make it. I just cant. Happy now? I am NOT
looking for a hand out, and I will politely say no thank you to anyone
who wants to put me and my family up for the weekend, but if I cant do
it on my own, then I wont do it.
Calum said it best. Mindstorms games are best played face to face. So
given the above paragraph, I dont understand where you feel I was being
negative to you and your idea.
-----snip my original text dated march 21-----------
Steve,
rtl will be doing this style of tug of war. we probably will not place
a "weight limit" with the understanding that weight is not always
better. besides we have the all encompassing "spirit of the game" rule.
The current draft rule set allows for a bot to race to the edge and
place a hook. OR, be sneaky and offer some resistance, then "let go" of
the rope, in the hope of having the other bot "fall"
As to a brickfest meet up. I just dont know. Im sure people could
enter robots by proxy, and or, modify robots to meet whatever rule set
you and Indy come up with.
While RTL was liking the idea of R21 and some kind of blackjack game, we
all agreed that it might be too much of a challenge, and the current
pattern seems to be easy, then hard games. r21 falls in the cycle of
"easy"
keep us posted as to what you guy decide.

So when you say this:

Tell me Steve, do you speak for Brian, or John, or ??? NO you dont.
Just like I dont speak for Iain, Rob A, Rob S, or John or..... All
Calum and I do is organize LOCAL events. If people want to attend other
events GREAT!!! I am not stopping them, JUST like I cant force others
from rtlToronto to GO to other events.
I even said in my message that maybe people could enter a robot by
proxy. the ONLY negative thing I said in my message is that I dont
think we would impose a weight limit. THEN I also followed up with
"...modify robots to meet whatever rule set you and Indy come up with."
Where is that negative?
One last point:
you said:

you, and

OK, fine. watch this:
ATTENTION WORLD, rtl will be doing a RCX TUG OF WAR game. The rules are
yet to be finalized but more or less outlines in an earlier thread. Im
not sure how people around the world will be able to play head to head
on this, but Im sure we will find a way.
Steve, obviously this is sarcasm, but I dont understand why you think I
was being overly anti-community because I didn't want a weight limit.
This game NEEDS robot to go head to head. otherwise, its a virtual game
where people will pit the robot against a fish scale and report there
findings in Newton/Meters.
That was not sarcasm.
So, tell me what Im supposed to do.

| (...) Chris, Calum, David, James, Rob, rtl people, anyone else reading. I'm sorry I posted this. I apologize. I had some things I wanted to say, and I did a poor job of saying them. Maybe it was a bad day at work, or something. I don't know. At the (...) (19 years ago, 23-Mar-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
