If it's too easy, why would you bother attempting a mechanical solution?
I suspect you're actually trying to say it will be too easy to win the event, if
you can build a mechanical solution. I would suggest most people will not be
able to build a mechanical solution.
Building an RCX-based robot that can stop within 18 inches is NOT going to be a
challenge for most people.
I assume the recent addition requiring the robot to "return to the starting
point" was added to make it more difficult, when in fact it makes the event even
easier, because it pretty much eliminates the possibility of using a
transmission.
Does it make sense to impose rules to forbid some robot designs?
What's the point of these competitions? If the point is learning, and showing
others what can be done, why limit the ideas?
