all different, and now there's a dwarf throwing an ax...

Actually, in the interest of lack of imagination, I let the eye-biting
monkey sit down at the keyboard, and...well, you know how he is...

O.k. so I'm familiar with the ‘Eye-bitin’ Monkey!’
(Cause he’s a facet of my delusionary schizophrenic psyche.)

But what’s going on with this “ dwarf throwing an ax”  who can  “disappear
into a cloud of greasy black smoke...”

What’s that?!?

Ah, the youth of the world... This is a reference to the granddaddy of all
computer RPG games: 'advent'. This game possibly predates your birth, it's a
text adventure and it first ran on mainframes, although it was ported
*everywhere* (1). The game Zork from Infocom supposedly is an outgrowth of
it, IIRC.

http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/jargon/jargon.html#ADVENT (start at the jargon
file for anything hackish..)

http://www.rickadams.org/adventure/ (semioffical appearing, well indexed)
http://www.rickadams.org/adventure/a_history.html (good history)
http://www.gamespy.com/articles/january01/muds1/index4.shtm
http://members.nbci.com/Cybrnaut/advent/history.htm

(the above is by no means a complete reference, this game is in CompSci
folklore and lots of pages are out there)

So, what's this about eye biting monkeys? I need a little help on that one.

FUT o-t.fun, dunno why HP keeps getting included.

1 - I first played it on the Univac 1100/80 at MTU. Although I have also
played it on the Commodore PET, the TRS/80 Model I, the original IBM PC
(floppy only) and on various VAXen and VM systems.

MAN LARRY! YOU *ARE* DATING YOURSELF! YOU ARE *OLD*! 8?D

Seriously, I figured he was talking about Gauntlet, at the most...

"The wizard needs food!"

Hee-hee!

Matt

(Oh! the rabid eye-biting monkey makes his first appearence here:
http://news.lugnet.com/harrypotter/?n=66 . The blame rests solely on Richard
for this particular running gag...)
