  Re: Can Harry Browne do it?

(...) I think 1% is low but not by much. The LP has said that it has had between 200 and 400 officeholders nationally. Many of them were elected in smaller elections (not the national general election) or appointed. I am guessing too. One thing that (...) (24 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Can Harry Browne do it?

(...) It's true, except for during the civil war. It was unconstitutional, and as proof I point out that a constitutional amendment was required to get it past the supreme court which routinely struck down any income tax laws (they were steamrolled (...)   Re: Can Harry Browne do it?

(...) Indeed. Don't get ME started either. The Commission on Presidential Debates is a "bipartisan" not "nonpartisan" and the bar has been set so high to ensure no candidate other than a demopublican can participate. This enusures perpetuation of (...) (24 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Reality == fiction?

I have to agree-- I expected much more from Maul... as is he was simply Darth Sidious' pawn, he didn't have his own agenda. Or at least not yet. He seemed to be like an anxious kid, eager to go out and kill Jedi, without any strategy save that which (...) (24 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.starwars)

  Jeez, everybody calm down!

Greetings all, It really shows what a diverse group we have when something like Dan's posted story can cause a discussion to spiral so completely out of control. I read Dan's story and found it kinda funny although, for myself, there did seem to be (...) (24 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Can Harry Browne do it?

(...) Yes, he'll get 1M votes. Keep in mind that in years w/o a hi-profile 3rd party candidate, such as Nader or Perot the Libertarians always place 3rd in the national election, and in years with those types of candidates they always place 4th. I (...) (24 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Can Harry Browne do it?

(...) Yup. It was quite a national argument too. The proponents of a federal income tax eventually got it passed by assuring (though not writing it into law) the skeptics that it could never go over something like 3% of income. (...) I never thought (...) (24 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Distaste for Jar-Jar (was: The Censors have won.)

(...) Haha, indeed. Anyways, in my opinion, Jar Jar has become the "Kenny" of Lego comics. So far I've seen him get beaten twice. I find it quite funny. What about Ahnee's ex-wife (I think it was) getting shot? Wouldn't that be making fun of natives (...) (24 years ago, 5-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.starwars)

  Re: Can Harry Browne do it?

(...) I've gotta look this up to be sure, because I couldn't believe my ears, but I thought that Browne said there was no federal income tax before something like 1913. If I heard that correctly and it's true, it means that there are people alive (...) (24 years ago, 5-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Can Harry Browne do it?

(...) I haven't actually seen him speak, but he will be the third LP presidential candidate that I will have voted for. I think it all comes down to money, and the LP isn't willing to get enough of it to actually take hold. I am a "belly up to the (...) (24 years ago, 5-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Reality == fiction?

(...) OK, you got me. Let me rephrase my words: Darth Maul is a very cool, "b**-a** m***** f*****" who's place in the Star Wars universe was to come in, be cool, do his thing, kill Qui-Gon, get Obi-Wan all mad, and die. I do hope that he returns for (...) (24 years ago, 5-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.starwars)

  Can Harry Browne do it?

Late last night on C-Span they re-ran a Harry Browne rally from November 1. I thought he did a good job of introducing the LP philosophy and I think a lot of people would hear his message loud and clear if he could get any decent normal TV spots or (...)
