  Re: polygyny in "biblical times"

(...) Heh! I see your wishful thinking! However, 1 Timothy 3:2 says: "Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife,..." and 1 Timothy 3:12 says: "A deacon must be the husband of but one wife..." (both NIV). This probably (...) (20 years ago, 14-Aug-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: NJ Gov resigns

(...) Though the point raised by both Scott and Chris suggests he had a much less altruistic reason for resigning, another related possibility for someone in this situation would be the ability to largely retreat from the public eye afterwards. I (...) (20 years ago, 13-Aug-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: NJ Gov resigns

  NJ Gov resigns

I think I am missing something here. He's gay. So what? Why resign? What does his preference in partners have to do with his ability to govern? (URL) (20 years ago, 13-Aug-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: 40 Reasons to support Gun Control.

(...) 'first against the wall when the revolution comes' is fairly self explanatory - I doubt it would be possible to nail it to a specific source. That said, Douglas Adams used it in 1978 in his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (in reference to the (...) (20 years ago, 13-Aug-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

  Re: Preaching to the Choir

(...) Actually, you do not digress here, Lar. The original point with which I started this thread was that o-t.d had become a quagmire where meaninful debate gets dragged down into the muck by the same old circular logic.   Re: 40 Reasons to support Gun Control.
