I only heard about this this morning, but it's big news here at work (in sunny
Pennington, NJ). The consensus opinion of my literate coworkers seems to be
that he's attempting to resign under the dark cloud of his homosexual
extra-marital affair in order to avoid the much darker cloud of misappropriating
(i.e. stealing) public funds and handing state secrets out to foreign nationals.
But I haven't actually done the research.
