I haven't got any pictures to post yet, and there is still a lot of work to
do on the MB escort carrier I'm working on, but its so much fun that I
simply could not contain myself.

I have never really been into BIG models, beyond a recurring dream of
building a minifig scale Enterprise 1701 (and the recurring nightmare of
receiving the corresponding credit card bill), but it is great fun simply
having so many blocks that you can build away without having to worry about
rationing, or even efficiency in block use.

I am also developing new respect for the humble 2x4 block.  The size of the
model means successfully sculpting with them is not out of the question, and
there is a great relaxation in the far fewer number of piece MB make.  On
the whole, great fun!

Lego planes will make up the air group (since MB don't have the finer detail
for such things) and no doubt Lego pieces will provide the delicate touches
of detail that make all the difference.

In the meantime, buildin' BIG stuff is great :-)

For those who ruminate fully on deep detail, I note (in case no-one else has
recently) that Lego and MB, despite good local compatibility, are not
actually the same size.  Over 16 studs, the difference in pretty much
imperceptible, however (as a guy who regularly uses grey 48 x 48 baseplates
- suitably trimmed - as decking) over 32 studs, the difference is more than
a millimetre.  Over 96 studs, using baseplates for the base of a single MB
model gives it quite a bow.  Over 192 studs, it bows to hold both of the
ends of the model up bu about 4mm.  Unattractive stuff.  Having said that,
MB models do not seem to need to follow the standard Lego 'blocks in the
middle, plates on top and bottom' approach - a ship doesn't actually need
baseplates...

Still baldly going...

(...) I think you'll find that if you build up high enough, the bow will go away. It is quite noticeable if you build with MB 1x2's on the flexible baseplates. Even the 2x4's do it. However, when you get more than a couple of bricks high, the bow (...) (24 years ago, 23-Nov-00, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)
