Mmmm, I thought it was a nice touch.

Better than building a vehicle fixed to a base plate anyway.

Armed with my trusty stanley knife, I (heretically - don't tell anyone) trim
the baseplate to suit the model - so the model isn't so much fixed to the
baseplate, as the baseplate to the model :-)

Although, given the size of this monster, maybe there isn't room to drive it
inside the house. If you take it outside, you'll probably need bigger wheels
to cope with the greater variation in the surface.

I have never really thought about whooshing an aircraft carrier around the
room the way one might with, say, a racing car, an X-wing or a cat.  I guess
it could be done...
