Another key thing about the present is the market of online toy stores trying
to
get traffic.  They offer mad discounts just to generate traffic.  How long will
that last?

The mad discounts are most interesting. The out-right screwups can
trigger herd instincts like nothing I have ever seen. Witness the £4
screwup at The Entertainer a few weeks back. e-commerce is a whole new
book waiting to be written. People are discovering what works and what
is dangerous by utilizing the braille method (feeling their way around
in the dark). Some day there will be a shake out. Let us enjoy it while
it lasts. After all, how *much* stuff can there be stashed in TLCs
warehouses in Europe ?

So I guess once all of this is understood (buy cheap online, let the others
battle it out for outragous prices on E-bay), my question and concern is how
long will this last and are we (as sellers) in an ideal time.  E-bay is still
gradually climbing as far as lego hits (from 100 to over 2000 in the past year
and a half).  Will the e-bay market ever reach a good supply-demand mark, or
will the nature of the lazy/rich?/and uninformed buyer keep us sellers
profiting?  Will the stores (online) keep on providing valuable coupons for us?

I think eBay is a good thing (not just because I sell some stuff
there). It (and other auction sites) are bringing a market balance.
People with things to sell are finding people who want to buy them. The
best price rules. Malcom Forbes is probably watching and smiling. The
biggest danger for eBay are those bidders who screw up the trust system.
They bid, make excuses and never pay. This can be expensive to the
sellers because: (1) the items ends up being relisted and (2) money
invested is siting idle. eBay is cracking down on the problem, but not a
momment too soon.

Anyhow - those were just some of my q's for all you wise men out there.  I'm in
awe.  And in the midst of finals.  The good goes with the bad I suppose.

I hate to say this (mostly because I've been around long enough to know what a lot of people here think about e-bay), but I just continue to be mesmerized by E-bay as a *seller*. Granted, it's frustrating as a buyer, but as a seller, what else could (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)
