Sorry to reply to my own post, just want to clarify/correct a couple of things.
In lugnet.market.shopping (and other groups), Steve Bliss writes:

And Technic sets, as listed at the bottom of the message. I don't think of
Throwbots as *real* Technic, and the droid sets feel more like Star Wars than
Technic to me, even though they are numbered in the Technic range.

I don't think the above marks really express my feelings right now. I feel
almost as thrilled as when I read Brad Justus's post yesterday.
