Thats true. But what I mean is; why is someone buying of item x 10 sets?
In my opinion just to make a lot of money later on. And I followed ebay for a
while and there are a lot of people who have some sets already and still buy
some more. Almost all sets are MIB and unopend. So why did they baught them if
they never used them?

What's wrong with making money? IMO, there is nothing wrong with buying
anything for any reason. If I buy extra food for the winter, store it,
and don't use it, and then maybe sell it at a higher price, is that
wrong? If you have the money, go for it. Some people don't think it's
fair, but oh well. Don't support the people you don't agree with. For
example, I bought a few copies of set #1775 1) It is a cool plane, and
2) I bought a few extra to pay for the initial ones for me. If you don't
like it, feel free not to buy it. I found most of my auctions were
fairly reasonable, and some weren't.

A big "ditto" from me here--for example, I bought about 14 Sith Infiltrators on
clearance, and I've parted four out and auctioned most of the pieces off--which
provided enough to pay for the other ten!  The goal is for my hobby to support
itself; ideally, I can also provide parts at below the normal acquisition cost for
builders too.  I don't deal much in MISB sets, though--I can't understand it only as
far as I myself am concerned; if I got a Metroliner or Club Car somehow that sucker
would be parted out and appearing in Space or Pirates MOCs within a matter of hours,
and the track and train-specific bits would be up on eBay.  (Stop twitching, GMLTC
people.)

Here's a good example:  I bought a 4565 for a few (like 18) pieces, and sold it sans
those parts to someone who wanted the rest of the set for the train gear--I took a
tiny bit of a loss, but overall it was well worth it.

So I'm perfectly happy with people trading in MISB sets on eBay--it supports their
own hobby, because many of them have their own "functional" collections too.  I'm a
little bit more suspicious about people who treat LEGO as only a commodity to be
bought and sold and have no love for it--but then again, that's true of anyone who
can't understand the devotion.  (I'm a very suspicious person as a result.)

best,

Lindsay

(...) No, seriously, I don't give a rat's patootie about *any* set put out by TLC- I bust'em all up [1]. I don't even build them-- I let my kids. Then they get cannibalized. Right now I'm half way through an observation car that required (...) (24 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.market.auction)
