Re: Proxy ratcheting: How do auction systems work?

(...) Right. Derick had described the rules and we came up with a theoretical example. This is a real one that impacts me and I'm not too thrilled about it. - I had mentioned to Todd (in (...) That's not a bad system either. (25 years ago, 27-Apr-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

Re: Proxy ratcheting: How do auction systems work?

Hmm, interesting theory. I bet it doesn't work that way, though. If the gap between the current bid and the top of the proxy is large enough, and a hard bid (or proxy bid with the right top value) is submitted, my overbid can be pushed to an amount (...)   Re: [DISC] Shortcircuit eBay?

Hi Lego auction enthusiasts, I want to give this idea below some consideration. I had an auction end last night where the bidder who had the high bid for five days was outbid with forty seconds remaining. Needless to say, he was upset, and said he (...)   Bryan Shirley and James Steele please contact me NOW about nonpayment/noncontact

Bryan and James, I have sent many Dacta auction updates, and several requests for your shipping addresses. No mail has come back returned, so you must be getting it. Please contact me NOW about payment for winnings in my auction. (25 years ago, 27-Apr-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

  Re: [DISC] Shortcircuit eBay?

What is so bad about sniping? I don't think I have ever done it, but I'm not sure I completely understand it. Is it like driving in the left lane that you know is going to be closed in a half mile but you drive that lane anyway and dodge in at the (...) (25 years ago, 27-Apr-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

Re: Proxy ratcheting: How do auction systems work?

Well in that case I guess you'd have to do some math and make your proxy the amount of percentage it should be in order for them to have to beat you by the percent rate. At least that's what I would do. I think the way it's done now is fair, you (...) (25 years ago, 27-Apr-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

Re: Proxy ratcheting: How do auction systems work?

Here's a real example of why you should have to beat the top of a proxy by the min increment. On serious collector, check out lot A 1382: (URL) Lego Dacta Bonanza: Controller, P/S, ISA Card, Lab Kits (2) maico $55.50 $55.00 $55.00 I bid this with a (...)   Re: [DISC] Shortcircuit eBay?

(...) What if bidding is perking along at a rate just short of lasting long enough to close down, and you run off the end of the time period? Whoever has it then wins. Back to where you were before. Snipers still can win. (25 years ago, 27-Apr-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

  Re: [DISC] Shortcircuit eBay?

Interesting. Except I'd rather not void an otherwise valid-bid. And I don't care if newcomer enters late in the game. They just have to be able to hold the bid for the X minutes required before I close the auction. Basically, I think the auction (...) (25 years ago, 26-Apr-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

  Re: [DISC] Shortcircuit eBay?

(...) Awesome idea! I think this is better than closing the auction unexpectedly. I did not know eBay allowed that. Might get negative feedback from your sniper, but you can very well reply to it clarifying that you did what you said you would. (25 years ago, 26-Apr-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

  Re: [DISC] Shortcircuit eBay?

Instead, put a note in the auction text that you reserve the right not to honor any bid placed in the last X minutes unless placed by a previous bidder in the same auction. You might also offer the established high-bidder - the person who was in the (...) (25 years ago, 26-Apr-99, to lugnet.market.auction)

I have *seen* these hoppers in the donator's car so I'm pretty sure they are a go:-) Personally, I'll bid on Lar's version [1] [1] I think it was the claim that Lar's hopper empties out in under 10 seconds that sold me.   Re: Proxy ratcheting: How do auction systems work?

No, I just talking about the case where someone comes in after the bids have settled for a while, and bids on them at G2. You outbid them, they wait for G2, and bid again. You outbid them, they wait for G2 (lather, rinse, repeat)..... Get the idea? (...) (25 years ago, 25-Apr-99, to lugnet.market.auction)
