I thought those comments were a wee bit harsh mate as I too thought the $50 rego was a little extreme. We (BLTG) had a disscussion this weekend while we were at a train show at Sandgate and we came up with the figures of about $1000 plus spending for each of us to go down and have a look. This is a lot of money (someone actually said all of there Lego spending money for the year) to invest early when we have not seen enough of a program yet as to what is going to be there?

I’ve done a few sums, and I reckon I can do the weekend for about $500, so you may want to shop around. If Kerry’s figures are correct, it may even be cheaper. Even at $500, $50 for registration is a relatively minor expense. Even without knowing the full program, I’m betting that the weekend will be chock-a-block full of lego fun of one description or another, so I figure I’m gonna get my $50 worth whatever the program is.

Also, I see that $50 as an investment in supporting Brickventures, and helps ensure that this isn’t a one off event. Sometimes it’s good to support something, even if there’s no guarantee you’ll get your money’s worth.

I know that convention space is pricy but I would like to see a much more detailed program / Itimary of the weekend events before I could justify booking flights and accomodation. I am sure you understand the logistics of travelling from Brisbane to Melbourne (return) for a weekend. We had about 6 of us who were showing interest but after we pulled the travel details from the net it went very luke warm.

That’s all from me but in ending $50 is high when we don’t know what we are getting for that money.

Sometimes you’ve gotta take a chance, Peter. It’s your money, but I reckon it’ll be $50 well spent.

Hi everyone I can understand everyone's concern about the costs of attending Brickvention. $50 (plus travel costs etc) is a lot for an untried product. This is not a new issue - every type of convention has this issue every year :) In the Science (...) (18 years ago, 9-Mar-06, to lugnet.loc.au)
