Well as some of you know there was an auto show here in San Diego over the weekend. And Sunday was kids day sponsored by Legoland. So I took my son down there to see the cars and to get the free lego set they gave out (set #8246 - I *still* do not (...) (24 years ago, 19-Feb-01, to lugnet.legoland, lugnet.general)

(...) Yes, the vast majority of the engine is non-LEGO. The LEGO body is actually like a shell which simply lifts off, leaving the non LEGO parts (frame, wheels, battery, etc). Todd, during my first trip to LEGOLAND CA, I got a 3-hour tour of the backroom, model shop, and animatronics control room. I picked up several models either displayed throughout the park or featured in the DK book. This was over a year ago so my (...) Hi All- As a follow up to my trip report, here's a few pictures to go along with it... The Safari Trek ride is a bunch of Zebra painted Jeeps with false steering wheels. Since LEGOLAND employs Model Citizens, akin to Wal-Mart Associates, I referred to the good natured woman at the entrance gate to the parking lot as an MC. Hi All, Wow - we recently returned from our most excellent California vacation, and the cold and snow of Western New York is a bit of a shock once again. (...) Ok, this got my curiosity: how many 2x4s are there in a pound ? I took a tub of red 2x4s and measured them onto one of my scales (better than 1/10 oz accuracy). However, the quality is not as good, since they are mixing around in the big bin as well as on the scale before they scrape them into the bag. /Eric (...) Remind me NEVER to make a one day run to SoCal again! I started off late as I slept through my alarm (no great surprise, I went to bed at 1am and had the alarm set for 2am). I left at 7:15am. lol, true you do have a classic now. I kinda wish I kept my older ones, its not like they take up alot of room. Check that - NORTH of LAX, not south. You may want to look at some of the shells by legoland - just grab the white pages and use the phone, not the gas to look. Ya, they are still on sale - they are starting to be hard to find. There are still tons of the small $1.60 sets, and I still see the big sets around. Just to remind you - I am not sure if you can get the shell lego sets up there - but if not there are lots of shells from Los Angeles to San diego. Here is a driving hint for you - take the 405 and not the 5 - the 5 is a mess all the way from LA to (...) One of the things I really enjoy about Miniland at LLW are the alterations that the team introduce to reflect the season or notable events.
