PS:  My insurance company is State Farm and I have nothing but good things
to say about them.  Two years ago we had a washing machine hose burst which
resulted in about $40K worth of damage to my house.  The whole claim was
handled very cleanly and to our satisfaction.

Ditto.  We had some hail damage to our aluminum siding last year, and the
adjuster not only didn't argue about the claimed damage, he went around the
house looking for more problems.  We were extremely happy with their
service.

I'm wondering if State Farm Home and State Farm Auto are run as two
separate organizations...

Yet another satisfied State Farm customer. I can't speak for home owners
policies, but my car and renters insurance are handled by the same agent
(and they just instituted a discount for having multiple different
policies).

As far as special riders for collectibles, I think that these are mainly
needed for collectibles which are extremely valuable, and require an
appraisal to have any idea of their value. Also, many policies cover
some of these up to a certain dollar limit.

The most important thing would be to document what you have, and
especially take good pictures showing the condition of any set which has
a high variability in value based on condition (most sets seem to not
vary too much as long as they are complete and all the bricks useable,
boxes generally only add a little to the value).
