I'm not sure if this is the right area to post this but here goes....

Since some, if not most of us on here have huge Lego collections, has • anyone
put there's on their home owners insurance policies yet?  You know in case • of
fire, flood or other disaster, the insurance company will have to cough up • the
money to replace them.  I have other collections, I need to do this with, • and I
was thinking of adding my Legos to that list.  I just wanted to know if • anyone
had already done this, and what response they got from their insurance • agent.
Not to mention how the listed them.

Since I have no kids, I'd expect that he might wonder a bit.  ;-)

I actually spoke with my insureance agent about this very subject about two
months ago.  She told me that my collection is covered under my home owners
policy but I would be wise to document what I have.  Pictures would be good
as well as anything that might show what the current market value of a set
is.  I asked her if an eBay listing would be sufficient and she said yes.
So in the unfortunate event that one needs to make a claim for your LEGO
collection, eBay and it's high prices might prove extremely useful.

At the time I made this inquiry there was small group of us here in NC who
were thinking of displaying a small layout at a train show.  I inquired
about whether my insureance covered this type of event as it was my property
but outside my home.  My agent told me that since it was purely for display
purposes and not to sell items (like a flea market), then it would be
covered.

PS:  My insurance company is State Farm and I have nothing but good things
to say about them.  Two years ago we had a washing machine hose burst which
resulted in about $40K worth of damage to my house.  The whole claim was
handled very cleanly and to our satisfaction.

(...) Ditto. We had some hail damage to our aluminum siding last year, and the adjuster not only didn't argue about the claimed damage, he went around the house looking for more problems. We were extremely happy with their service. I'm wondering if (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.general)
