Also, unless I'm reading too much into this, I'd say that the player
represented is supposed to be black, and yet is rendered in standard minifig
neutral yellow. Good for LEGO for sticking to their guns, if true...now go
ahead and make yellow minifig Star Wars Lando Calrissian and Mace Windu please.

Should be interesting to see what they unveil. I for one would love to see
other skin tones in the minifig line. I respect Lego's insistence on JUST
yellow... it's their company..... but then again......

We DO have brown ABS for Chewbacca. We have a tan(ish) color for JarJar
binks. I mean, we even have green in the Mars line and Blue in Watoo.
Certainly Lego could load up some other vats of colors and give us a broader
range of ethnicities.

Does anyone have a perspective on this?

Lots of people do...start here:

It just seems to me that it's silly
to maintain the yellow only tones when it would be so SIMPLE to offer
alternatives.

You hit upon the magic word...simple.

The idea behind the yellow minifig (besides the available LEGO color
spectrum whe they were invented) was non-ethnic ABS-sapiens.

While LEGO allows for diversity in their Duplo/Explore line (which I kinda'
understand since the Duplo figures started peach flesh color-the articulated
ones, not the white faced block figures), they've stuck to their guns with
minifigs, and I think they're cool for doing so.

Imagine if they'd had a gaggle of stockholders nattering away about how the
line should include 50 different shades of minifigs in an attempt to make
everyone in the world feel all happy and good inside. Then they'd insist
that every set made be made in each ethnic variation, or that such-and-such
a set had an uneven mix of ethnic types, that it takes a village, blah,
blah, blah, etc., etc. And you think LEGO is expensive now?

Yet another reason for LEGO to stay privately owned.

Matt
