Recently two of the Vancouver Lego Club members have had images of their MOC's taken from their own galleries, and uploaded with no credit to someone's personal gallery. Why specifically two members of the VLC have been selected I don't know. As a (...) (23 years ago, 15-May-02, to lugnet.general) !!

(...) Well, a couple thoughts here; first, there may be a completely innocent reason; the most obvious one I can think of is ignorance. (...) Someone else seems to have had a problem with this whole situation too. The gallery in question is no where to be found and the accusational images the 2 VLC people posted ( rightly so imho )are erased as well. I agree that it was a (...) (23 years ago, 15-May-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) Unfortunately, by uploading they are claiming ownership, according to the disclaimer, unless they clearly state otherwise. "All Gallery content is property of the uploader, unless otherwise stated" I also keep many pictures from other peoples' (...) (23 years ago, 15-May-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) Interesting topic to have come up tonight. I have thought about this also. I agree. Some form of watermark should be placed onto each image. There is no doubt that anyone with a 286 and a paint program and manipulate a persons work. But make (...) (23 years ago, 15-May-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) Hum.. this is very very interesting. It's not exaclty what I was talking about but it will do as well. I was focusing more on the actualy image file itself. You can edit the image file (in a any paint/photo software) to place your copyright (...) (23 years ago, 15-May-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) Yup it seems the situation has resolved itself. This was quite the discussion last night on the VLC list. I think it was more of an misunderstanding than stealing. The person who took the pics into their own gallery apparently operates (or has (...) (23 years ago, 15-May-02, to lugnet.general)

If the person was really making a website for commentary on MOCs then he really doesn't need permission to use the pictures. However, it is considered polite to ask. Posting them up on Brickshelf is another matter. Hard to say it was a "fair use" (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) A commentary site is certainly a legitimate thing, HOWEVER, copying an entire BrickShelf folder for use on a such a site is stretching fair use. Fair use MIGHT justify copying one picture to illustrate the article, with a link to the (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish)

(...) Probably to ensure that links wouldn't go dead. The easiest way to ensure that is to have the images in your control--divided sourcing has a tendency to fray the tree very quickly. LFB (23 years ago, 20-May-02, to lugnet.general)
