What is the point of committing murderous revenge when it only fuels the fire?

Scott A

A reasonable person would have to ask, how would this question had been
perceived if it had been directed to whoever perpetrated yesterdays events
before they happened. Either they were commiting a murderous revenge or they did
it to harm/destroy a center of the civilized world.

The spiral downward began at 8:45 yesterday morning. Most of us are merely
along for the ride. I believe that it will be a long ride, and one in which many
more will pay with their lives (on both sides of the great oceans).

Two years ago I left a well paying job in a large northeastern US city. I did
that for personal reasons, one of which was a concern that a population center
is an easy target for this kind of murderous revenge. I now live in a small home
with a dog and 20 acres of pine trees. If anyone wants to drive a plane into my
house, then so be it. I can't stop them, but it would have a much smaller moral
dimension that what happened yesterday. Make no mistake, those targets were
selected for the maximum effect with the minimum assets utilized.

Yesterdays events were acts of terrorism. They (whomever) are trying to deny us
our ability to live our lives in a normal manor. They succeded for one or two
days. Many people sat transfixed staring at the TV screens, not unlike a deer
caught in the headlights of an oncoming car. We are probably somewhat
desesitized to the sheer horror of those events, partly because of television
and partly because of those big screen slam-bam movies of the last 25 years. It
is a still a horrible and senseless act that was perpetrated on purpose. Someone
somewhere had a reason/ideology that caused them to act. That act has cost us
dearly, both in lives and our ability to be free and civilized. Those persons
have attacked the base foundations of our society.

In my opinion, there should be a retribution. It should be carried out
selectively and publicly. It should be carried out within the frameworks of a
civilized society. It should be all inclusive (i.e. anyone and everyone having
any part in this should pay equally). If a nation state is found to have been
involved, then that raises the ante considerably.
