Scans of 1960's ads —Jim Hughes
Hi: I just finished scanning all of my 1960's Lego ads (well all 5 of them!) and thought that they came out good enough to post. Temporarily they are secretly embedded in my Technic site at: (URL) finally figured out how to properly tile multiple (...) (25 years ago, 25-Apr-00, to lugnet.general) !!

Re: Scans of 1960's ads —Todd Lehman
(...) I find the text on the elephant page historically interesting, BTW! :) (URL) actually say: "Give your child enough Lego® and his imagination may get carried away." and: "It would take about three thousand boxes of Lego to build a giant (...)       (...) [snip] (...) Interesting question. Maybe that one just slipped by their lawyers. :) It's interesting to note that this supports the "Lego as plural noun for Lego" camp (ie most diehard online Lego fans). Since current documents say that Lego (...) (25 years ago, 25-Apr-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: Scans of 1960's ads —Jim Hughes
(...) I'll bet that the change came when Lego reacquired the Samsonite License in '73 and decided that they needed to more carefully control their trademark. (25 years ago, 26-Apr-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: Scans of 1960's ads —Nick Goetz
Neat. It is interesting to note that the builders/designers of the time (if there were any at tht time) did not even attempt to curve the legs or top of that elephant. Even the tusks are composed of several rectangles instead of a consistant curve. (...) (25 years ago, 25-Apr-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: Scans of 1960's ads —Matthew Miller
(...) That's partly a stylistic thing -- take a look at buildings designed in that era. (25 years ago, 25-Apr-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: Scans of 1960's ads —Nick Goetz
True the building were more "blocky" but an elephant? I guess in a time when human faces were nothing more than a 2x2 block, the elephants were thankful they even got tusks! <g> -Nick Matthew Miller <mattdm@mattdm.org> wrote in message (...) (25 years ago, 25-Apr-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: Scans of 1960's ads —Alan Gerber
(...) I think they're trying to simulate something like the kid shown would make. Look at the coloring of it. If it was made to look as good as possible, it would probably been one color, and could have better curves. Alan (25 years ago, 25-Apr-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) Thanks Jim, these are nice! I like how the 1961 ad suggests that adults play with Lego too... JohnG, GMLTC (25 years ago, 25-Apr-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) Actually, the red rally car from 673 was one of my fav LEGO cars in my childhood: (URL) who complain about the level of juniorization of today's town cars: Look at this ad!           Re: Scans of 1960's ads —Tore Eriksson
(...) That has never bothered me. I think minifigs overall are the worst form of juniorization. I've always hated their foolish grin, yellow skin, and their stupid stud on top. My Lego people have always been invisible and they have no problem (...) (25 years ago, 25-Apr-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: Scans of 1960's ads —Tore Eriksson
(...) If there is an ad anyone really wants in its original environment (second hand Swedish Disney magazines), I can try to hunt for it next time I go to Stockholm.        (...) Thanks Tore! I had your old site in my bookmarks, so now this is replacing it. One of the things I like about these old ads from Sweden is that they show dates at the bottom (2 of 3 do).
