What do you consider proper etiquette for taking photos at an event like
BrickFest?

Depends on the situation.  I have never been to a BrickFest but I did
go to BricksWest.  I won't be at BrickFest this year, either. :-(

I love taking pictures -- but I can get kinda trigger-happy.  Please share
your thoughts on the questions below!

You're an exhibitor...

* Do you take it as a given that there will be lots of people with digital
cameras taking lots of pictures?  Are you cool with that?

Yes.

* Do you consider it flattering if someone asks to take a picture of your
display?

Yes.

Are you insulted if someone takes a picture but doesn't ask first?

A snapshot, no.  An involved set up picture, that involves moving
things around and arranging equipment, yes.

Are you sad if someone has a camera but doesn't take a picture?

No.  I doubt I'd notice.

* How do you feel about pictures of your creations showing up online?

I'd have an issue if it was used for commercial gain.  But otherwise,
no problem.

* Are you concerned about the use of strobe flashes?

As long as they aren't in my eyes without warning, no.

* If I asked to take some close-up photos of your display and I wanted to set
up lighting which might, for a period of time (I dunno, like 10-20 minutes),
get in your way or prevent others from getting a good look at your stuff, how
would that affect you?

You'd have to ask nicely.  I might ask you to do it at a later time or
something if it was inconvenient at that time.

You're a strolling attendee...

* Are you camera-shy?  Do you show it or hide it?

Neutral.

* Does a nearby camera distract you?  Does it invigorate you?  Irritate you?

Someone with a big professional rig that is shooting video footage for
TV or something would distract me.  Passers-by with point-n-shoot, no
problem.  Somewhere in between is a grey area.

* At what distance do you feel your "personal space" is being entered?

Dunno.

* How do you feel about candids?  When someone takes your photograph, do
you tighten up?  Do you relax?  Do you like to pose?  Do you prefer to be
photographed "naturally" (talking to someone or pondering something)?

I may not want to be the main feature in a photograph without being
asked, but as part of a crowd scene it is not a problem.  Posed
pictures usually look stupid, and I prefer candid ones, however.

* Do you hate being asked to smile for the camera?

Not hate exactly, but I don't like it either.

* Do you mind being photographed with a telephoto lens from 10-15 feet away?

If I know about it and have given consent, no problem.

* Am I being rude if I take your picture without asking you?  If I did this,
and it upset you, would you let me know?

If it's a picture of me specifically, I'd prefer to be asked.  If it
was by surprise, I might get irritated and say "Hey!" or somesuch.

* Do you enjoy participating in group photos?  Large groups?  Small groups?

No problem.

* How do you feel about pictures of you showing up online?  Would you want
to approve/reject photos of you prior to their being published on a web page
or do you trust the photographer's judgement?

Again, as part of a group shot, I wouldn't mind.  But for a shot that
features me, I'd like to have a chance to veto it.

You're a speaker...

* Are flashes a distraction for you?

Probably.  Depends on from how far away, whether everyone's doing it
or just one person, etc.

* If someone takes your photo, are they least likely to distract or annoy you
if they're in the front row, or way in the back, or on the side, or down by
your feet?

In the back or to the side is less distracting.

You're an event organizer...

* What expectations do you have for photographers at your event?  What rules
do you expect them to abide by?

Depends on the event...

AMAZING BUT TRUE: There is so much sand in northern Africa that if it were
