Yes, that's what I was getting at. The older sets just seemed more
universal, but that is the price to pay if we want more different types of
pieces and more colors. The arguement is well supported on both sides. I'm
not prepared to say "get rid of the new colors and new, modern parts," but
the fact remains: new colors and new parts makes it more difficult to work
with a given set of parts. That's why I suggest the theme buckets. It's a
way to tilt the odds back into our favor instead of having to buy several of
the same set for a single part.
