Light grey is what I prefer building my castles in. If they were available
in Tan or dark greay (in bulk), those colours coudl make for great colours
for large stone buildings. But use whatever YOU think looks best. I've seen
some great look white castles and black can look great when coupled with
light grey.

I'd add my vite to eth Black Falcon's Fortress. Quite compact and therefore
cheap, and all kinds of useful great parts. The main problem is that the
drawbridge looks a bit basic and small, but a larger one would require a
high tower, thus a more expensive set. The guarded Inn and Dan Siskinds
Blacksmith's shop are also great, and both are available now.

I may be wrong, but I believe there may be a few in the rereleased Islanders
base. But the best way to stock up on parts like that is to look out for
used lego sales at markets and stuff. You can get some great deals if you
are lucky, I've found piles of lego on sale very cheap in the UK at least.

Guarded Inn and Blacksmith's shop. Also, some of the Harry Potter and
Starwars sets also have very useful bricks for castle style building.
Hagrid's Hut has lots of greay brick. Fort Legoredo has loads of great
wooden palisade walls, but it is quite an expensive set. Look out for sets
on sale. If we're really lucky, sets like King Leo's castel may go on sale
some time soon.

I'm sorry to hear that. You'll find though, tha you can build great things
with limited lego resources. The best MOCs aren't always the biggest ones.
Unfortunately though castle building (as opposed to say spaceship/military
style stuff) often ends up being as big as you can get it.
cheers and happy building
