Yeah, some of those Boat parts need to be relocated.  Especially now that
the
Wedge group has been broadened to include the boat base bricks (originally,
wedges were only the 3x4 wedges, like part 6069).

There's also the matter of the 2x3 and 2x4 wedge/wing plates.  The 2x3 pair
is classified as wedge plates and the 2x4 pair is classified as wings.  It's
a little less problematic, since both groups of parts are in the Other/W
branch of the tree, so it's just a matter of scrolling from one to the other.

Ayup.  All the wedge-plates should be classified as Wings, with all the bricks
staying in Wedges.

I'm getting really tempted to start tweaking my copies of the part files to
force certain pieces to be relocated in the part tree.

That's not a totally bad idea.

I'd have to start with that 2x2 plate w/ grilles, I think.

If you have a better name for that part, I'd like to hear it -- I haven't come
across a convincing one yet (of course, I haven't been looking).

The _Part files are 'official shortcuts', meaning that they use a known LEGO
part number which indicates not only the part, but also the specific color.
That's why the _Animal Horse parts don't change color - they are intentially
fixed-color.

Ah, okay.  That's completely understandable, then.  They use standard part
numbers, though.  Are those the official LEGO numbers for those parts?

Yes, AFAWK, those are the official LEGO numbers for those part-colors.  For the
base part (ie, without a specific color), all four- and five-digit numbers are
'official LEGO numbers'.  Three digit numbers (3DN) are used for parts whose
numbers we don't know.

Alphanumeric suffixes (a, b, c, p01, c02, etc) are used to denote different
parts related to a part with an official known number.

(...) No, I don't mean coming up with a new description for it. I just want it to stack with the rest of the 2x2 plates in the part tree instead of ending up at the very bottom of the list after the 10x10 plates. There's no logical reason why it (...) (20 years ago, 27-Oct-04, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)
