  Voting Comments  [DAT]

(...) It took me a while, but here are my comments on the current batch of voting parts. Since others have looked closely at the patterned baseplates, I ignored those. 2851: This may be getting a bit picky for this part, but where the peg holes meet (...) (...) Good observations, all. (...) Ah ha! A question I can answer! I asked Tore the same question, and he assured me the part is indeed studless. As shown. -- Terry K -- (25 years ago, 18-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) The back of the head in the subpart does indeed use a 2-4cyli primitive. You have a good point, but I am concerned about the two slices of cone-like quads which form the curves above and below the cylindrical face area (on the front of the (...) (25 years ago, 18-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

It is probably a bad practice to use two 1-4cyli.dats on each side and rotate them partially to make space for the peg hole, as (...) (25 years ago, 18-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) Yes, at least it makes a difference if the lines are drawn before or after the surrounding/contrasting color quads. LDraw (and LDLite) favor the earlier-drawn object, when two objects occupy the same space. Always draw edge-lines first. Steve (25 years ago, 18-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) Is that so? I can't remember having read that in the FAQ. I'll make sure to sort the edges first, now that I know of this. Fredrik (25 years ago, 18-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) You can minimize the jagged appearance by using a 1-8cyli.dat around the hole. This leaves the minimum amount of surface around the holes to be jagged in POV-Ray. And if you rotate all the primitives to center your 1-8cyli parts on the (...) (25 years ago, 18-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

As Fredrik pointed out, this is probably a FAQ item. Well, it's not specifically FA, but it is useful information, and anyone writing part-files should know about it. (...) (25 years ago, 18-May-99, to lugnet.faq)

  Re: Voting Comments

(...) I've thought about writing a function in LDAO to sort a DAT file by line-type: first the 2 (edges) and 5 (conditionals), then the 1 (may be edges, surfaces, or both) then the 3 (triangles) and 4 (quads). Steve (25 years ago, 18-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) There's a Sort function, but it sorts by position, bottom-to-top, back-to-front. I put it there to help me transition models from the "adding pieces to the file when it's convenient" mode to the "present new pieces in order for other people to (...) (...) You are indeed correct, yes. Thanks a lot. I took the time to "brush up" the surface around the axle holes as well. I believe the current solution is a better one; I no longer use partially overlapping 2-4rings to cover the surface. The part (...) (25 years ago, 19-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) That's a really great idea! It's obvious you're pretty experienced with LDraw. I'll do the changes when I get home. Fredrik (25 years ago, 19-May-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Voting Comments

(...) Order of drawing doesn't matter, except for coincident objects. For transparent surfaces vs. edges, it matters even less: the edge must 'show through' the surface, or the renderer isn't working right. LDraw and LDLite both display transparent (...)
