Hey all, in my anime lacking frustration, I went to the movie rental shop
and checked out their anime section, the only anime besides Gundam,
escaflowne, and dragon ball(z) that I have heard of was patlabor (Mladen
mentions it often)
and appleseed again through Mladen.

They didn't have either so I decided to get anything with mobile armour on
the cover. I ended up grabbing Gasaraki 1: the summoning, it had a neat
looking mobile suit on the front and the back cover sounded kind of neat so
I got it. It also turns out that it was made by the same guys who made
patlabor 2 (ADV) and patlabor must be good if it's Mladen's fav. anime.

Anyway, the purpose of this post is to question all of you anime savvy
guys/gals out there that have seen this about how this (and the mobile
armour within the movie) compares with other anime, I wanna know if it is
the cream of the crop and as good as anime get's, or if it's just okay.

thanks a ton

(...) I remember that name, but it doesn't stand out for me, so chances are I didn't think that much of it. Seen so much that it sometimes blurs into one. IMHO the best anime over the last few years was Neon Genesis: Evangelion. Involved story, (...) (23 years ago, 24-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Ooo! You lucky dog! Found Gasaraki on your first try! ;-) (...) Knowing this, expect to see a lot of political talk. Patlabor 1 & 2 were filled with great characters, and interesting plot. (...) I have yet to see Gasaraki, but from what I've (...) (23 years ago, 25-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Well, I'd heard that it was highly political, and bore more than a few similarities to Neon Genesis Evangelion. (Anything as good as Eva is bound to be influential. ;)) The mecha ARE highly realistic... unlike Gundam and Macross (and don't get (...) (23 years ago, 25-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

I have v.1 - v.4. The story is pretty good, the mecha are cool, although not very diverse. Some pretty good dvds if you can get them for less then retail. Pat J (...) (23 years ago, 25-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Thanks to everyone who replied! (you know who you are) I'm *still* not done, had to cut it short a little ways in, but I'll finish it today. Sounds like a good movie, but I think I ought to go searching again for more, one influence isn't as good as (...) (23 years ago, 25-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)
  Re: Gasaraki 1, any good?

(...) Actually, ADV is just the US Licensor (FTR, Patlabor 2 was licensed by Manga Ent.), and had nothing to do with the actual production of those shows itself. :) (...) I have the first two discs, and it is pretty good. The mecha designs are cool, (...) (23 years ago, 25-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)
