Thanks again! I don't know if it's a clue that will be ultimately useful, but
it's definitely intriguing. The post absolutely should not be missing, and its
absence is indicative of a potential systemic problem.
I'm looking at a 3 Mar 2010 snapshot of the entire system, and I see that it was
a message that I posted on 6 Oct 1998. It was still present in the proper place
in the filesystem as of 2010. So we can say for absolute certain that it is an
error that the post is missing. I never deleted/canceled it.
It's an important message indeed about disclosure of real names. Use of real
names (rather than pseudonyms) was a decision made early on in LUGNET's history
as a guiding principle hoping to avoid flame wars that seemed more prevalent
on systems where people obscure their identities.

I've done a compare with the oldest available live backup and found a total of _three_ articles missing, namely: ./lugnet/announce/brickset/3 ./lugnet/announce/37 ./lugnet/disney/125 These have now (...) (2 weeks ago, 10-Jun-26, to lugnet.admin.nntp)
