That message was definitely there just the other day, my newsreader
downloaded it, marked it read, etc. (and I also specifically remember
reading it). So it went AWOL the same time as those other ones on Monday.
I notice that that message (it's back now), and all the other n=1 and
n=2 messages, have Expires headers set to 1/1/2010. I don't know if
that's something specific to these messages, or if it's just a
difference between the restored snapshot copy and the "current" copy. (I
don't see it in other unaffected messages, and I don't remember if this
header was present in these messages before they went missing.)
I also note that, so far, it's only messages sent by you/the server that
have disappeared (but the sample size is admittedly small).

| (...) Thank you, Nathan! I think we have our smoking gun. Inside an older snapshot, I just did this: $ cd news/art/lugnet/announce $ grep ^Expires: * 1:Expires: Fri, 1 Jan 2010 00:00:00 GMT 2:Expires: Fri, 1 Jan 2010 00:00:00 GMT 37:Expires: Fri, 1 (...)
