  Re: Bulk Lego Auctions

(...) I think this is where we may have gotten off track Larry. I *suspect* you may be very interested in having the charter(s) updated as a way of addressing your pet peeve(s). And this is should have been understood by me. It wasn't and I (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jan-02, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Bulk Lego Auctions

(...) Would having a link in the nntp headers to the groups charter (as a 'X-' line) be of any help? It'd allow you to go to any post and click on it and get the charter. Since the Web already has a equivalent (the link in corner thing) so it could (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jan-02, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Bulk Lego Auctions

(...) This was a good suggestion, and needs to be expanded to the web interface: On the page for posting a message, there could be either the entire text of the charter for the group being posted/replied to, or at least a link to it. To cover (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jan-02, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Bulk Lego Auctions

(...) Yes, unless the charter was revised in a later message. I made this suggestion earlier, but I think it got lost in the noise so I'll repeat it: what if the confirmation e-mail contained text asking the user to make sure the message complies (...)   Re: Bulk Lego Auctions

(...) Well that depends on how much "extra precedence" is given. That point aside, perhaps a cynic would admit that the fact that more than half of the last 100 messages have been highlight/spotlighted is quite impressive. Is any other group better? (...)   Re: Bulk Lego Auctions

(...) Right. The algorithm for determining the entries into top stories automatically gives heavier weight to stuff posted into .announce... a fine example of the law of unintended consequences, subclass "you get what you measure for"... ++Lar (23 years ago, 4-Jan-02, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) (should have said "as a stopgap") (...) Good idea. (...) Agreed. but as as stopgap, seems better than nothing. It's still not clear to me if the text that appears at the top is the group specific text from the original charter, from the latest (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jan-02, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Bulk Lego Auctions

(...) Messages posted to a .announce group show up in the "top stories" much more quickly than mssages not in an .announce group. My cynical nature suggests to me that this is at least partly the reason it is posted to (inappropriately) so often. (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jan-02, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Bulk Lego Auctions

(...) GREAT idea. (...) Well, many groups have a blurb at the top which is the group specific part of the charter. But providing a link to the whole thing is a good idea too, and I've done that for trains and trains.org. I suggest other curators (...) (23 years ago, 4-Jan-02, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Bulk Lego Auctions

(...) Charters are always post #1. One thing to remember is that while Lugnet appears to be an NNTP server with an e-mail interface and a very nifty web interface, it's really a huge data base, with NNTP, e-mail, and web interfaces.
