I get the general impression that the number of registered users / members
is growing day-by-day. However, I get no real feeling that there are more
(in terms of numbers) people posting here or that the total numbers of posts
is dramatically rising. Is there any data which demonstrates growth in these
tems?

I have looked in admin.statistics, but that really just gives a 'snapshot'.

Just curious.

Average Newsgroup Message Traffic
=================================

I am a little surprised. Posting traffic over the last 12 months is actually
slightly down - in terms of trend. This is almost all due to the Xmas rush
last year I expect.

Statistics are great things, if I extend the downward trend, I can predict
that LUGNET will be down to one post per month in mid-December 2007!

Where do you see a downward trend? Excepting September 1999, when I
compare the traffic for a given month in 1999 with the traffic for the
same month in 2000, I consistently see the 2000 traffic as higher. In
fact, in general, I see the same pattern of ebb and flow for about half
the months (we can't see January 1999, May of 1999 is a local peak where
May of 2000 isn't. March of 2000 is a local peak when March 1999 wasn't.
Without the 6000 message archive influx in September 1999, it would be a
an up month compared to September 2000's being a slightly down month.
What I do see is that the fluctuation in 2000 is less, this suggests a
more stable membership, which is to be expected, 1999 was Lugnet's real
jumpstart year.

Sorry, I was not clear. I meant the changes within the last twelve months.
