No. I think it was user error!
I went back to try to reproduce it and saw that the "linear all" was purple.
Meaning I clicked on linear all when I thought I was getting "nested all" view
instead.
So never mind.
However, consider putting something at the top of the display to remind the
user of what they are seeing, the nested all and linear all displays have no
distinguishing mark or heading (other than the layout itself)

but of course it works fine, so again, never mind.

Call it bud pruning then. No branches were removed but the flowers (individual
articles) were snipped down to tiny nubs.
