Would this upgrade address some of LUGNET's performance issues?
Huh?  Performance issues?  That's new to me.  Tell me more.
Anyway, what times of the day are you accessing, and where from?  What is
your Internet connection speed?  Tell me everything bad that you've noticed.

It's probably the same scenario that Mike Stanley is seeing, but I'm not so
sure sometimes.

I'm accessing LUGNET around the hours of 9 AM to 6 PM MDT, in Utah.  I'm on
a 100Mb LAN connected through Novell's Internet link, which is typically
very very fast.

I'm using LUGNET primarily through the NNTP interface, using Netscape
Collabra as my news client.  I'll open up my newsgroup tree, which will
query LUGNET for a message list update.  That will take anywhere from a
second to 2 minutes for 25 newsgroups, and about the same time span for
individual newsgroups (1).  The really annoying part is when it pauses
halfway through a long message.

Usually, when LUGNET is lugging, I check some other site -- usually Yahoo!
or Deja.com -- to see if it's not our gateway.  About 90% of the time, they
come back right away.

I can send you a traceroute, if you like.

Cheers,
- jsproat

1. Why Netscape has to check twice, I have no idea.  :-P

(...) Thanks for the info. Yes, a traceroute could maybe help. If you could make a note of the exact time of day too, that would really help. I can check that against the server activity logs to see if anything unusual was happening at that time. If (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jun-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

What type(s) of problems have you noticed? The server has only barely (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jun-99, to lugnet.admin.general)
