New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Larry Pieniazek
(...) There will no doubt be a formal announcement for this, well, maybe this is it. Here are what I think the current weights are: [ ".announce" => 2 ], [ ".moc" => 3 ], # Net effect +5 [ ".admin" => -1 ], [ ".off-topic" => -1 ], [ ".debate" => -4 (...)         Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —David Eaton
(...) Huh! So-- if Jake made an announcement about, say, new bulk pack sets in "klassik grey" (or if new colors were switched back to old) and posted to .announce, .color, and .lego, the net result would be a -1 default? I think I like all of the (...) (20 years ago, 27-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Larry Pieniazek
(...) The weights today are global, there is no facility for an admin to adjust weights on a post other than by voting him or herself (or not voting). Nor do I think there should be one. I honestly enjoy some of the debating and whatnot too, but you (...) (20 years ago, 27-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —David Eaton
(...) Well, yeah. (...) To be honest, I don't think there should be one either, but essentially that's what the system is doing right now anyway. Whoever decided that "all posts to .lego should be -1" and "all posts to .color should be -2" clearly (...) (20 years ago, 27-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —David Eaton
Huh... Does the weighting on the front page of LUGNET vs. the News page change for spotlights as well? I noticed this last night, and right now I'm seeing: Main Page: 1. LUGNET Posting Policy Update 2. LEGO-decorated Christmas Tree 3. Bullfrog: My (...) (19 years ago, 28-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX Todd Lehman
(...) Whoops. Thank you for discovering this. They were in fact completely out-of-sync. I forgot that the news pages use a newer piece of code, different from the old code that the main homepage uses. --Todd (19 years ago, 29-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights —Ross Crawford
(...) I think I agree. (...) I'm not sure I like this idea - here we are all AFOLs, I see no reason to treat official TLC announcements any different. If we get the rankings right, there should be no need. (...) I would be fairly strongly against (...) (20 years ago, 27-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Mark Papenfuss
(...) -snip- (...) I would think you could figure that out by what they actually DO highlight. Why would you need to try to guess? I WANT to see .color and .lego and if they have to do an uphill battle thats not good IMHO. Seeing posts that have got (...) (19 years ago, 30-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Why do you think we're guessing? The spotlight function has had weighting for some time. Periodically, that weighting gets adjusted. This was one of those times. (...) We consider and evaluate everyone's opinions, and will include that one, (...) (19 years ago, 31-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —David Eaton
(...) Although I admittedly would still rather see the weights go down to just +2 for .announce.*, and leave off .announce.moc, .lego, and .color from the list all together, I just had another code-change-necessary thought for weighting... How about (...) (19 years ago, 31-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Where you said yourself "what we believe" - that tells me you do not know, but are guessing on what you believe to be true. And I know full well the spotlight weighting has been going on for some time and gets changed. I do pay attention (...) (19 years ago, 31-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Ross Crawford
(...) Mark (and everyone), if you have specific groups you want to see please go to those groups and read them. The spotlight feature is ONLY to choose what gets put on the front page and other "top stories" pages. It is NOT intended to replace your (...) (19 years ago, 31-Dec-04, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Mark Papenfuss
(...) Well ya, thats kinda easy to figure out ;) I never said anything about how this was stopping that process. I know its not, I also know that is not what my post was about in any way. (...) This is kinda more on my point - but still not 100%. (...) (19 years ago, 1-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Ross Crawford
(...) Mark, I wish you (and others) wouldn't go deleting quotes included for context. I've re-inserted the sentence you removed above, with I assumed to mean you wanted to see posts in .lego and .color, which is the context in which I posted my (...)          Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Mark Papenfuss
(...) My entrie (first) post was about weighting and spotlighting. Nothing in the post was outside of that context, so there was no need to assume there was any more, or different, meaning to it. And no, I did not mean I wanted to see more of any (...)         Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Ross Crawford
(...) A couple of questions: Will these weightings be made available on a page somewhere so everyone can see them anytime? Is there a policy in place to regularly look at these weightings and make adjustments if deemed necessary? Thanks ROSCO (19 years ago, 1-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.general, FTX)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Larry Pieniazek
(...) I don't know. Good question. I think you could argue that both ways, but probably it's a good idea. (...) Putting some regularization into the process seems a good idea to me, so ya, there should be. Up till now it has been ad hoc though, I (...) (19 years ago, 1-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.general, FTX)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Vince Hagar
(...) I would think that making the weightings available to the public would lead to temptation to abuse the system. IMO. For all I know, though, the entire LUGNET community is 100% Grade A honest. Anyway, my 2. -Vince (19 years ago, 1-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.general, FTX)

Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Ross Crawford
(...) Maybe. But then abuse of the system would lead to time-outs, would it not? If the admins start to see the page leading to too much abuse, I guess maybe then would be a good time to look at removing it. (...) I don't think this is a question of (...)         Re: New spotlight weights( was Re: LDraw shortcut images in FTX —Kelly McKiernan
