Actually, Eric's entirely correct. On the 'top-tier' pages, the filters are
used, however they're ignored when in a subgroup. Hence, if you're on (for
instance):
http://news.lugnet.com/?n=*381757,-100&v=c
or
http://news.lugnet.com/?n=*381777,-20&v=b
You'll notice that anything set to skip in your filter settings gets
skipped. However, if you go to:
http://news.lugnet.com/castle/?n=*17640,-20&v=b
or
http://news.lugnet.com/off-topic/?n=*39154,-20&v=b (probably a better
example since most people have at least off-topic.test skipped in their
settings)
No messages get skipped, regardless of what's in your filter settings.
Considering some of the structure of newsgroups, it would probably be nice
to someday get the skip-filters working at the lower levels as well.
However, it's a touch bit trickier since if you're in:
http://news.lugnet.com/castle/?n=*17640,-20&v=b
One would assume that NO castle posts should get skipped (no matter what
your settings), but subgroups *of* the group you're browsing should get
skipped according to skip-filters. Hence the logic's a little different than
on the top-tier where all the skip-filters are applicable without any sort
of analysis.
