  NNTP Problems

Hi, I use Virtual Access to retrieve newsgroups. I've set it to retrieve all messages in about 12 groups on lugnet.com. It usually times out and has to be run again. It took 6 passes to get all 80 some messages tonight in all those groups. I follow (...) (25 years ago, 9-Sep-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Todd: [ Example: (URL) ] (...) IIRC, the problem was that the newsreaders/mailers in question induces people to write badly formed posts. (...)   What happened to the logo on the Main Lugnet page?

Todd, The Logo on the main page looks like the traffic Icon today? Is this intentional? Just thought I would mention it. Eric Remove ".nospam" when replying by E-mail. The New England LEGO Users Group (URL) (25 years ago, 11-Sep-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

In the following "bad" and "misbehave" is only meant with respect to the suggested policy. Christian Holtje: [...] (...) I may not have been clear enough. The server should not _edit_ the "bad" posts. They should reject them with a message (...) (25 years ago, 10-Sep-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) sell- (...) Ok. Then the problem migrates back to community awareness (unless I'm still confused <grin>). I did a quick scan of all the offers to sell a set(or sets) in .bst in September.   Re: New Items on The Vault - 9/9/99

(...) It seems to me that all of these are probably best off in shopping. Of course if eToys or TRU start posting, I would expect them to keep the posts to a reasonable quantity (1 per week or less, except when announcing specials). The posts in (...) (...) I think James Brown has already expressed my opinion precisely. I see .buy-sell-trade as first-person advertisement, and .shopping for third-person sales or finds.   DAT line parsing (was: Re: Datsville: crane2 (exponents?))

(...) My bad. 'Twas a bug in the code in the ldraw.cgi script on the server which recognized DAT content. It wasn't expecting 'e' exponents in numbers. The old regex (just the non-type-0 portion): /^ \s* [1-5] (?: \s+ [0-9]+ ) (?: \s+ \-? [0-9]* \.? (...) (25 years ago, 14-Sep-99, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.admin.general)

Todd (et al?): So...I got over-zelious with my cleaning of my mailboxes and blew away my email/account info for lugnet. So went a-hunting.   Annoying Bouncing Mail?

I've always wondered, if I have a "spam blocked" e-mail address, and I leave the little box that says, "Please e-mail me a copy of my message" checked when I post via the web, does Lugnet get a bounced back e-mail for the invalid address?
