Re: status of the expansion board

(...) . . . (...) Where can we find out more about the LEGO sensors? Are they part of some specialized kits? Do they sell them individually? Is there an online catalog? (28 years ago, 11-Jul-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Newbie Questions (Sensors)

Greetings! I have a couple of "newbie" questions if you please: I ordered from LEGO, their "sensor suite". I managed to wire and use the touch sensor. But I am puzzled about the use and wiring of their Light Sensor (9890) and their angle sensor (...) (28 years ago, 10-Jul-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: status of the expansion board

I'm curious as to how the Polaroid sonar and servo circuits will work. Will they simply steal timer lines from the HB's digital headers, or do you have something more complex worked out? For example, will the sonar's ECHO signal still go to a (...) (28 years ago, 11-Jul-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Trinity College robot contest

Fred & others, FYI, there were 5 teams of LEGO robots (using 6270 and HB) in the "grown-up" category from Penn State Abington-Ogontz (Abington, PA). These were freshmen and sophomore engr undergrads taking a robot design course. (One team placed (...) (28 years ago, 8-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

I am making a Lego robot as detailed in the book "Mobile Robts, Inspiration to Implementation". I would like to use the Handy Board as a control centre. Please may I join the handy-board mailing list. Thank you. Richard Whitehead (...) (28 years ago, 9-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Trinity College robot contest

Hi everyone, Jake Mendelssohn has posted the rules for the 4th annual spring 1997 Fire-Fighting Robot Contest. I went to the 1996 contest and it was great fun. (...) Check out (URL) the B-BOT frame by Marvin Green, which costs around $30. It has a clever bumper arrangement which allows it to sense collisions in all directions (similar to the Rug Warrior). Of course, there's always LEGO. -- Randy (28 years ago, 22-Sep-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  motors for the handy board

Handy Board Users: I took the LEGO Super Car (#8880) and scrapped everything but the four wheel drive with the differentials, the front and rear wheel steering, and the suspension. Then I shortened the frame sllightly so that the distance between (...) (28 years ago, 4-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Pic16c84 programming with Handyboard

David -- The MAX662 chip I used on the last beta rev was not the magic bullet I hoped. Not only is there possibly the rise time problem you mention, but when the thing turns off, it outputs 5v. The PIC needs a swing from 0v to 12v to enter program (...) (28 years ago, 5-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

(...) I had the same problem. I did many tests, and the last one was: I removed the 4x4 transmision, removed both forward and backward differential, and put a 9.6V motor with a VERY high torque.   R/C cars as robot chassis

Here is a rule of thumb to keep handy when converting R/C cars to robots; o If the R/C car used either NiCd batteries, or it had a NiCd battery pack, the motors will draw too much current for the Handyboard. This is strictly true of any controller (...) (28 years ago, 12-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
