Any motion between two hard surfaces, including sliding metal on metal (often called contact wiping), creates intermittent contact that has to be "debounced". I tried NiMH batteries in my RCX. It lost its firmware. I suspect the output voltage (6 x 1.2 = 7.2) is too low. You should be able to do it using an external battery pack, but I suggest you use 8 cells instead of 6. The resulting 9.6 volts shouln't (...) (27 years ago, 28-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)
