Anyone else noticed that set 7904 - City
Advent Calendar 2006 seems to have an unusually large number of extra parts
included? For the 9 days Ive opened so far, from the 9 individual little
polybags, only the two bags that just contained a minifig didnt have any
extra parts inside them. In all other 7 bags Ive found one or more extra
parts, including several ones of a type you normally dont see as extra part
in sets.
The yield of extras so far (first 9 days) is:
1x Black Arm Mechanical, Battle Droid
1x Light Bluish Gray Bar 1 x 3 with Clip and Stud Receptacle (Robot Arm)
1x Trans-Orange Cone 1 x 1
1x Trans-Yellow Cone 1 x 1
1x Light Bluish Gray Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Vertical - Type 3
(thick U clip) 1x Black Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with 1 Stud
2x Trans-Orange Plate, Round 1 x 1
1x Trans-Dark Blue Slope 30 1 x 1 x 2/3
1x Trans-Red Slope 30 1 x 1 x 2/3
2x Light Bluish Gray Tap 1 x 1
1x Blue Tile 1 x 2 with Groove
2x White Tile, Decorated 1 x 2 with Computer Keyboard Standard Pattern
image 1x Light Bluish Gray
Tile, Modified 1 x 2 Grill with Bottom Groove / Lip 1x Black Wheel Trolley
/ Skateboard
If this turns out to be a new trend, I welcome it :-)
With friendly greetings, M. Moolhuysen.

I have not much idea if it is the new trend or common around other sets, but my
8288 crawler crane came with an unsual amount of extra pieces which cannot be
explained by alternative models. There are even quite a few big pieces remained.
Cheers,

Minifigs have been holding it in for more than 25 years now, but relief is
finally in sight now that the LEGO company has released its first official
minifig bathroom in the form of a port-o-potty in set
7905 Building Crane. Heres the relevant
zoomed-in screen capture:
I realize this has already been pointed out in
this thread, but I really thought this
was cause for greater celebration. Now we can move on to discussions of what it
means that the first official LEGO bathroom has very little privacy thanks to
that large clear window on the door. And, my goodness, is that a roll of toilet
paper in that minifigs hand?!

Heh. At 1000steine, they discussed this very issue a while back. I think they
determined that the 4896 came down to a single element that was too new to be
available in the original gray. It's the 1x2 plate with side rod of 2004. See
the handle of glove-compartment in this close-up:
http://www.1000steine.de/temp/4896-1.jpg
It was pointed out that the element could be swapped for black or that a
slightly different element be used. Their post:

LEGO retail stores here in Massachusetts got the 4896 sets in stock last week
(Wednesday?) but I have yet to swing by and purchase the set for myself.

And I just heard that our LEGO Retail stores (in MA) are now receiving new sets
(Sponge Bob, Avatar, and I think some Batman).

Yes, some very nice looking sets coming out!

The way I see it (another anti-bley person here) is if I'm gonna get a set just
to display, then I'll just leave the bley in it. Either it's on the shelf or in
its box - it won't get absorbed into my main "building pile" collection.
If you're buying for the pieces however, then that's a whole other issue...

LEGO just announced Robolab 2.9:
http://www.legoeducation.com/store/detail.aspx?by=6&pl=10&ID=1273
This last version of ROBOLAB is designed to support RCX users and east the
transition to the NXT system. This upgrade enables you to program the NXT
brick with ROBOLAB. In addition, ROBOLAB 2.9 features new firmware to allow
users faster processing, more motor speeds, floating point math, improved
debugging and programming functions and more. ROBOLAB users ready to get
started with the NXT technology will be able to work in a familiar environment
to create programs for the NXT brick - from basic Pilot to high end Inventor,
and data logging programs. Users can therefore continue to build up their
educational robotics resources by investing in the new LEGO MINDSTORMS
Education hardware while continuing to use a familiar programming
environment.
It looks like the Swan firmware is now official....

Try one of these:

I have the yellow one from Jessops - I bought my Dad the bigger red one for his
SLR. Basically it's a fat beanbag with a tripod spigot on the top. The blue
one has an off-centre screw for some digital cameras.

Ace Kim also got some great shots if you go and check out <www.fbtb.net>.
Thanks for getting some pics up Larry.
I'd have to say the set I'm most excited about from all of that is the Roaring
Roadsters. Everytime I've looked at it I've noticed something new. I'm always
excited about Star Wars too, and as silly as I feel, I've already bought all of
the Piraka for this year. sigh...

Larry-
Thanks for all the photos and the report amid the record 27 inches of snow in
Central Park.
If the new Technic motor pack is the black geared motor from the RC race cars,
thats rather unfortunate. I dont know how many times Ive heard folks at TLC
say were going back to basics and every time they come out with these
juniorized, oversized, studless, colorized, not-part-of-the-system things.
