Doesn't it strike anyone else as odd that this VERY American set shoud show
up at S@H in all of these other countries first, but not in the US?
Not that I'm saying that it won't be here or anything, just pointing out the
humor (?) in the situation.

Great news, Manfred!
Thanks for dropping your note here. I'm happy that set will have no motor.
Without it might become a good part spender.
Now it depends all on the picture to come....

I'm really curious to see how they model the front of this engine, there
just doesn't seem to be a really good true "LEGO" way to get the "puppy dog
eyes" look of this engine in LEGO.
Here's a link that has some information about the real Santa Fe Super Chief:

Dan Siskind solved that problem-- he used 2 little Adventurer's windshields
(only works with 8 wide designs:-) I'm not sure where some pics of it may be
though....

Just based on the description I think that this set will be single-handedly
responsible for getting me into LEGO trains. It's a personal thing, you see.
My very first toy train when I was a young child was a Super Chief...my very
first HO scale train set was a Super Chief...my very last O scale train set
was a Super Chief...I was born in Orange County and raised in Los Angeles
County, and the name Santa Fe was synonomous with the word train to this
little tyke.
I can't wait to see this set, and seeing as how it's a limited, numbered
edition, I'm sure I'll be buying several.
Thank you LEGO, for giving me a piece of my childhood back.

That would be a lot of chrome! But we can hope. I too am looking forward
to this set as the SantaFe warbonnet design is probably my all time favorite

These are intended "LEGO Legends" remakes:
"Pizza to go" was previously known as set #6350
"Wreezeway Cafe" was previously known as set #6376
I've taken the information from a parallel discussion on Lugnet about these
2 sets (Thanks to Timothy Carl Buchheim and Ken Godawa). These sets showed
up at the American side also, and for a while where even marked "availabe"
over there. This must have been a premature unveiling incident too, since
they have been removed again from the site.
Someone claims he succeeded in actualy ordering the 2 sets (As far as: he
recieved a order confirmation from Shop@Home, I wonder how LEGO thinks to
comply :-)

At Brickfest™ 2001 the reissuing of the Metroliner and Club Car was
announced. The boxes were shown and they were given as door prizes (if I
remember correctly...).
Perhaps Mr Justus might have similar plans for BricksWest™ 2002 - announce
and debut the Santa Fe Super Chief (Item #: 10020). I do not think the
timing is coincidental... A big annoucement like this, plus announcing the
reissuing of Breezeway Cafe and Pizza to Go would certainly give a great
lead in to a Question and Answer session. The perfect answer to "What have
you done for us lately?" Hats off to you Mr. Justus! (is it too early to
say thank you?)

Close (right box color), but unfortunately, no. The Sopwith Camel and Green

bad as Time Canada leaking the new iMac last month the night before it was

The pedant in me is forced to point out that Super Chief(tm) is a named
train of the ATSF, and warbonnet is a paint scheme of the ATSF... neither,
techically, is a locomotive. LEGO(r)'s labeling it as such is a bit off.
The Super Chief named train was pulled by a number of different locomotives
over the years. It premiered, IIRC, with a custom boxcab/shovelnose
locomotive for power and worked its way through various E and F units before
the F7s (referenced in the site someone else linked to) were standardised
on. Later on it used cowl units.
The warbonnet scheme has been applied to a LOT of different locos over the
years, including some in service today that havent yet gotten repainted in
BNSF colors. I think there was even a dark blue/yellow variant for ATSF
freight service at one point, and you can argue that one of the current
multicolor BNSF schemes is derived from the warbonnet scheme.
Nevertheless I await more details as eagerly as everyone else. IMHO, the
sharpest application of the warbonnet was to the Alco PA...

The Blue/yellow isn't considered a warbonnet though ;-) Only the
red/yellow/silver... There was also a red/yellow design for the failed

When the Pizza to Go and Breezeway Cafe first appeared on
S&H, the Pizza to Go showed it was available now and the
Breezeway Cafe showed that it ships March 27th. I was however
successful in ordering the two sets prior to S&H removing them
from their site. I ordered those two sets along with the Blacksmith

Yes there was a red/yellow. Those are both warbonnets. The distinguishing
characteristic of the warbonnet scheme is (according to ATSF historians,
writing before you were born) the shape of the demarcation between the front
color and the rest of unit color, not the colors used, nor whether the
colors are separated with stripes.
So you're certainly entitled to the opinion that those schemes aren't
warbonnets, but it's not an opinion that's generally held.

There is a big difference between unveiling the reissuse of the Metroliner
and the introduction of a totally NEW set. No one has seen the Santa Fe
Super Chief (Item #: 10020). People are already salivating to know what
features are emphasized and what parts are included in the Lego rendition of
the Santa Fe Super Chief. (as well as who the designer is... Could anyone
here at Lugnet be involved also?)
The intial "surprise" maybe gone, but IF so, it has been replaced by an
eager anticipation to delve the details. It may lead to a more fruitful
discussion with Mr. Justus, if people aren't so taken by surprise. More
thoughtful consideration can be given to questions asked and perhaps even
more topics can be covered in a limited amount of time. I, for one, am
looking even more forward to hearing reports of all the wonderous happenings
slated for BricksWest™ 2002 now that I suspect this is one of the things to
be revealed. It kind of shares the excitement of "the Event" with those of
us that are not so fortuante as to be able to attend.
BricksWest™ 2002 ... the excitement builds!
Have fun Everyone! (and remember the stay-at-homes... lots of pictures and
prose please!)
travel safely!

The SOO is one of the best LEGO(r) F units I've ever seen anywhere (as I
think I've said before). My only critique is that the nose is perhaps one
stud too long, it's more E like than F like... F's start rounding down just
about right in front of the cab front windows.
Combine the nose, grid, and porthole techniques of the SOO with the
warbonnet scheme and you may well have something like what LEGO has up their
sleeve... one can only hope anyway...

Which was, to my mind, one of the funniest things at Brickfest--
Henry getting the Green Dragon. Like he's never built any sculptures
himself. That were green. And reptilian.[1] ;)

Not that there's anything WRONG with that!
That IS an interesting idea. The big problem would be how to hide the 4
duplo studs it has... LD so far has not commissioned any new molds but
presumably omitting those studs might not be a HUGE mold change...

Actually, maybe Steve is more right than he realizes... 10020 will be
the first LEGO Direct special DUPLO set...

No longer there, I'm afraid. I searched in Belgium, Germany and USA - all
said "unavailable in this country".

yup...you are right...its there....but not available (yet)
what worries me is the part about it being a "special numbered" limited
addition...does this mean that it will be extremely rare??? If so, I guess
10001 Metroliner set will be on hold....(again!!) D'oh!!

I've allways seen, warbonnet, blue/yellow, & SPSF red/yellow, I figured the
warbonnet was the red/silver.

OK. So you were just asserting, then, without any research behind it? Thanks
for clarifying that point.
Warbonnet is a shape. Think about the traditional "warbonnet" headdress of
the plains Indians and you'll see why it's a shape rather than a color
scheme. Hope that helps.
|
|
|
Good point Larry, in fact if you type "Warbonnet" into the Google Images
search engine, most of what you get are pics of indian head dresses.

uuum, yup, but then, I KINDA did research, but not as much as I should have
eh!? I guess a Model Catalog isn't enough these days!

We have been running a "Super Chief" on our layout for the last couple of years,
MSLTC.org look under Photos (should be able to get updates on the site later
this week)
Hopefully this one will have the bullet kind of nose from the passenger
streamliners.

I know that this is only art, but the banner on the LEGO trains site has
had a image of a train of F7/F9 looks for a while.

I've been hoping to see one rendered in LEGO since they launched the
trains section.

At the www.msltc.org site I am just able to see 2 pictures. The rest are broken
links....
Are the files offline or have you by chance used blanks in file names? I hate
windows for allowing that! Netscape will not handle such files.
(BTW: Could you handle files with "Umlaute" äöü - my CD-recording program could
not and I lost some important data I got from a collegue....)
Kind Regards,
Ben
(Begging everyone to avoid filenames with blanks etc.)

MSLTC is centered in Little Rock, AR with member in Little Rock, North
Little Rock, Hot Springs, AR and Memphis, TN.
The pictures are from Arkansas River Valley Model Railroad Show, held last
October. We are having a web update session this evening (2-12) and will
get the links corrected and new pix up.
We meet the third Sat of each month and have a (semi)permanent home with the
layout set up so we can run trains and tinker with the foliage and figs.
Currently working on a pair of smaller modular layouts, on trolley based.
Planning 5 shows this year, two in April, one each in Sept, Oct & Dec.
Everyone is welcome to visit, let know and I will send a map to the "clubhouse".

Ahhh, I got it now. I was talking with Rick Sellers a couple weeks back,
when he was visiting the ALLTEL office here in Atlanta, and he mentioned the
LTC in the Little Rock area but I never picked up on the official name. Need
to get y'all linked up on the LUGNET map.

I called S@H this morning on another matter - the set is in their database and
priced at $39.95 (no motor), but not yet available to be shipped. That could
change any day - the rep had a pre-release copy of the Spring catalog and was
looking at the price there as well as in the system.
