Hi Everybody,

The following is my attempt to parallel my feelings about biology, learning, and teaching... while still building cool castle stuff. The story is ripe with parallels in my own life (getting my ‘colors’, students thinking my answers are too long, etc.)

Enjoy...

Thanks Eric, I know you pride yourself as an artist in this genre. So you can appreciate that this was the fisrt time instead of just building something I tried to ‘express’ something, which by the wealth of positive feedback I’ve recieved, I accomplished.

Thank

Felix

Very cool! I got sucked into the reading and was waiting for the Big Deep Statement, and the apprentice came up with the perfect answer!

Looking forward to seeing more.

More?! For you and me its all space for a while.

But I do love castle and have to thank Jim and Maelee Foulds for thier inspiration. Not only for the Citadel of Kel-Nuroc, but also for something that Jim said. At brickfest, I asked, “so what inspired this? The castle is so beautiful.” And without missing a beat the guy says “My wife.” then exchanges a warm glance with her. Man I’m tellin you- that melted my heart. After that I started thinking, “I want to do something more.”

But you’re also to thank, Joe. Talking with you via email, phone, and in person is really invigorating. I haven’t posted a creation in a long time and you were one to push me to build, so thanks.

WOW! Felix this is awesome! First, I loved it because so often, when asked questions relating to my personal studies I give a waaaay to long answer (ie. Hey lenny, what was up with world war 1... fifteen minutes later.. nevermind, don’t care). I love how you inserted academic studies into the guise of a wizard. Tony Hafner, in his short-lived IOM stories, developed a really neat character who also spent his life as a wizard/academe Sorjin.

But what I love best is how the wizard feels lonliness because of his learning and understanding. I think all to often the wisdom of the academics is ignored because it is too difficult/too time-consuming to be understood by the politicians and soldiers who run our society.

This little story shows what makes castle such a great little theme - it calls for story telling. I can’t wait for the next installment in this story felix! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the feedback, Lenny. I guess with anything, even lego, when you trully have a passion for something it can be a let down when people don’t share your enthusiasm. I think especially with biology, I get this wonderous appreciation for the world around me- an apprecaition not too many people understand. I don’t claim to be some high and mighty know it all of science... I just love it. And thats what distinguishes me in my field, IMO.

Even in castle creations, you still manage to sneak in a Sea Monkey :) Very nicely done. The sets are gorgeous (I LOVE the black castle with the red highlights) and the story is well written.

Thanks Adrian. The SeaMonkeys totally play into the tale, and they’ll probably be sneaked into everything I build now. They were created as a way to blend biology with lego.

Hi Felix!

That’s nice buildings and a somehow impressive story, an ode to life.

“Now, I write. Though people seldom read. I speak, though people seldom want to hear what I have to say. From time to time, I am called to the town hall for my advice - when to plant, how to heal, when to war. I tell them ‘respect life in all forms’ and am usually dismissed as mad. Such is the nature of man.”

That’s my favourite paragraph, though I wished it wasn’t that true.

Bye

Thanks Jojo. i didn’t mean to come off as such a downer, but that was one of the more meaningful things i put in there. thanks for noticing.

An eloquently told tale, and a zinger for a punchline!

Oh, and the MOCs are cool too. I especially like the ship, the black tower, and the church.

A question on the church door: I’m not familiar with that piece being used for a double door. I thought it was only designed for the large HP door. How is that put together?

Ha, thats the town hall-- which the whole time I was building I thought “people are gonna think this is a church.” I was suprised by that HP piece; its got hinges on both sides so you can put on a double door. I think I got it from Snape’s class.

Thanks for the kind words

Felix,
Well, there's just a bunch of great mocs and little scenes here, with great
dialog too.

The wizard's home is nice and detailed, and I especially love the magnifying
glass holders...

That's a cool undersea walker that the green wizard is using on the sea
floor with the Orcas and the sea monkey.

I like the wizard's home too, it is hard to get pictures of mostly black
MOCs... The grey ball balancing on the four little points is a nice touch.
I'm not familiar with the red piece that is used in the center of the larger
roof, is it a cap from some Lego container, or something else?

Almost missed the tree man/ent outside the wizard's dwelling... He looks
like he is pretty posable too.

Nice work.

Thanks, I experimented with a lot of different shapes.  I envinsioned this as a
creature that blew a big bubble that the Sea Monkeys could use to transport air
breathing species in during visits.

Yah, if you look through my brickshelf account you'll see a lot of bad pics
involving black MOCs.  The best solution I've come up with seems to be to take
the pictures outside.  The red dome is the bottom of a Duplo egg.

Fragile, but posable.

Nice work.

Thanks!

As long as the answers are as well illustrated, I don't mind :)

Well done!

Felix, this is great as it is, but with a little re-tooling this could be an awesome post-holocaust moc. It smacks of Thundarr the Barbarian, and specifically the wizard Gemini’s tower. Dig the time/gate aparatus, and the dino head over the fireplace...very original and cool.

I love Thandarr the Barbarian!

Thanks for the compliments. I realized later a dino head on the mantle didn’t really fit with a kind and gentle life-loving wizard. Maybe it was some demon he slew. Who knows?

Felix, that’s a great story, along with some great creations. This building is my favorite...awesome use of the grey ball.

Hi Felix!

I really love your work. Your castles and scenarios are so simplistic yet they really hit the mark. I enjoyed every minute. My favorite was the city hall. Plus, I like how your story tells more than just the story... :-)
