Mark's is an example of a layout where there are more bricks in the trains than the layout! But I agree with Larry that just because you put more bricks into your scenery it doesn't mean that's where the effort lies. My smallest engine, an 0-4-0 OF (...) You know, I just realized something. LEGO train club builders don't spend a lot of time or pieces on actual trains. They instead spend their time and effort on the scenery around the trains.
