In lugnet.trains, John Neal writes:

<snipped my distortion of history that John quoted>

Correction: I was looking to form a club entitled the
"Upper Midwest LEGO Train Club" (see early threads in .trains.org).
*J-1* and the others were thinking about "Greater Minnesota",
and had already secured gmltc.org for that name.
After a short impasse, it was J-3 who suggested
"Greater Midwest LEGO Train
Club" (requiring no change in domain name), and it stuck.

Correction accepted. I was willing to take the fall for this since Kai has
already stated he considers me a meanie, or words to that effect...

<snip some more distortive narrative by Lar> Assuming you can
tone down your shouting, that is. But if they could put up with me and J2,
they can put up with you.

I'm not so sure.  Being a member of the GMLTC is not an entitlement.  And here
is something else to be confused about, Kai.  We could change our name to the
KLTC (Kai's LEGO Train Club) and *still* not invite you.  Go figure that.

Good point.

*Even if* it's the only club in the area, *even if* TLC is supporting it,
the membership has a right (or should have a right) to decide that, for
instance, only those 18 and older can join (c.f. NELUG), or only those
willing to behave a certain way at meetings can remain members, or only
those willing to work as directed at shows can come to shows, or whatever
criteria the club selects.

At least that's the way it *ought* to be. Your lawyer may choose to push a
different interpretation, but that's an issue with things the way they are,
not with things as they ought to be.

Here's a question, though? Is it nicer to make up little white lies like
"you're not geographically close enough" or is it better to say "we choose
not to admit you" (because you're 12, or because you are too boisterous or
whatever)?

FUT to trains.org, this is an org issue
