I want to get back to the question I posed at the end of my last post, which
was posed more as a thought starter than as a comment on this particular
situation... what should groups do in situations where they don't want to
admit a member for whatever reason? It clearly engenders hard feelings
(again, c.f. NELUG). Any little white lie eventually comes unraveled. IS it
best to say nothing at all except "we made a policy decision" and leave it
at that?

Well because you posted the question and referance NELUG twice I thought I
should respond.

First I hope you don't think NELUG ever lied or tried to cover up the
fact that we had an over 18 rule.  Quite the opposite in fact which I
think is why we got hammered for it, not because we lied about anything.

Exactly. However much you got hammered, I think it would have been worse if
you hadn't been upfront about it. That's my thinking anyway.

Now back to the question.  I think any group can set whatever rules for
membership it wants and as long as they are up front about it just leave it at
that.  If that leaves someone out for whatever reason then they should feel
free to start their own group.

Again, exactly right. If the market (interested people) is there, more than
one group can be created in the same geography. Further I think if it
happens it's a *positive* thing, in most cases.
