To answer your questions, it takes about 45 seconds to lower and 55
seconds to
raise completely, which is about 75 studs, 60 cm, or 24 inches. The
gearing is:
new 9v motor drives wormgear, wormgear to 24t, 24 coaxial with five 12t
gears
which ride the rack. There are two motors, powered from the same
console.
There are 76 rack gears in the towers; I just counted them! You can
actually make
do with half that many, a single file on each tower suffices if you
don't put
heavy loads on the bridge while it's up. For a while I only doubled the
racks
at the top, where the bridge would rest for long periods.
